About Āta Therapy
Āta Therapy, is named after the Māori principle Āta - to act with gentleness, deep care, deliberation, and respect for others.
In a world that often demands quick fixes, this philosophy guides us to slow down, pause, and move at a pace that honors your unique journey. Therapy is not just about clinical outcomes; it is about the quality of the safe, trusted relationship we build together that lay a foundation for meaningful change for you.

My journey and person-centred approach
I became a mental health occupational therapist after seeing how easily a person’s sense of self can become lost in the midst of mental health challenges. My aim is to bridge the gap between clinical support and real, everyday living, helping you rebuild your life one small, purposeful action at a time.
I believe true recovery cannot be rushed and that you are the ultimate expert on your own life. In our sessions, I prioritise creating a safe space where you feel genuinely heard and never judged. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, we work together to uncover your strengths, and achieve your personal meaningful goals.
To aid with this I have gained training in specific therapies such as ACT, DBT Skills and EMDR as well as being a registered member of EMDRNZ and OTBNZ.

What sessions feel like together
Our time begins with attentive listening. I take time to understand your whole story so you feel valued, respected, and supported. Looking holistically at mind, body, environment, and daily routines, we focus on what brings genuine meaning to your day.
You remain in full control of what we discuss and how quickly we move. Whether talking through thoughts or exploring practical nervous system regulation and sensory modulation techniques, I provide a grounded, predictable environment where you can feel at ease and never overwhelmed.
Please let me know if you want to include karakia or prayer into our sessions.

Therapies explained in everyday terms
I integrate evidence-based approaches into practical, gentle support suited to your individual needs:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing): Helps you process stuck memories, allowing them to be safely filed away without the overwhelming emotional charge.
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy): Teaches you to let thoughts simply be, rather than draining energy fighting them, so you can reconnect with what you truly value.
DBT skills (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy): Equips you with practical tools for understanding emotional responses, managing interpersonal conflict, and navigating relationships with ease.
